Auction Tip: Tough Economy

During tough economic times, restaurants will temporarily change their Wine List to reflect fact that people just don't buy as many $150 bottles of vino.  People still want to eat out, but sacrifices need to be made.
Smart restaurateurs realize if they continue pushing the spendy stuff, people may stop coming to a bistro where they are reminded of what they cannot afford.

Auction committees should take a note of that willingness to be flexible if times are tough.  I recommend peppering your live auction with some "lower valued" items.  Keep donors active at your event.  Even if it's at a somewhat reduced financial level, they will appreciate your empathy for the plight of the communnitee.  Show that everyone is tightening their belts this year.

A fluctuating economy is part of this business.  Nobody likes it, but the sooner we deal with the reality of the situation and adapt, the better off we will be.  Keeping your head above water during the tough times, while still offering an exciting event will serve you well long term.

Auction Tip of the Month

During tough economic times, restaurants will temporarily change their Wine List to reflect fact that people just don't buy as many $150 bottles of vino.  People still want to eat out, but sacrifices need to be made. Smart restaurateurs realize if they continue pushing the pricey stuff, people are likely to stop coming to a bistro where they are reminded of what they cannot afford.

We can take something from that flexibility and incorporate it at your your Charity Auction.  I recommend peppering your live auction with some "lower valued" items.  Keep donors active at your event, at a somewhat reduced financial level, and they will appreciate that everyone is tightening their belts this year.
